The leaves are changing. Trees are bearing their souls. The 'hawk' is coming for your neck...

This Sunday will mark the first official day of Fall when we turn our clocks back one hour (ahh more sleep). It's also the season of classic fall prints--namely Plaid. The signature look of northeastern lumbermen has been reinterpreted by everyone this season from New Era to The Hundreds. Plaid comes in an array of color combinations, styles, and can be found on anything from hats to shoes.

P.S. Up Against the Wall has a cool line of plaid scarfs in a variety of colors to protect your neck.

Skinny jeans belong on you waist!!!

There's been a style tragedy out here in the streets of DC that needs to be addressed...dudes wearing skinny jeans incorrectly. Now some may argue that 'style-is-as-style-does', so one cannot misinterpret a trend--they simply make it their own. O contre', what I am speaking of is a horror...bagging skinny jeans. Not only is it ugly but it DEFEATS THE PURPOSE OF HAVING SKINNY JEANS!!! The jeans are skinny to be form fitting so it doesn't make any sense to buy them in a larger waist size so they can sag below your boxers. Then these dudes wear them with fat ass shoes like the Nike Sharkley's and think that they doin' it up but alas, they only look like victims of bad style.

Conversely, you dushbags that have jeans so tight that we can see your camel toe...you need to have that cut off and donated to a tranny society.

I hope I don't see this during the fall or next summer along with Crocs (these are not fucking fashionable!! stop it!!) because pictures will be taken and posted here.

Peep Complex magazine's to fix the problem...DENIM 101.

Denim 101

Skinny, regular, salvage, straight, boot cut, wtf? There are so many choices of denim types, brands, and fits these days that it becomes confusing to know not only what you are paying for, but how to wear you new jeans. Then there are those who want to follow trends but end up mutilating them due to poor judgment (or a lack of common sense).

Well the folks at COMPLEX have got you covered--from how the jeans should fit; to matching denim fits with your kicks--they give you all the basics in their DENIM 101. Read and be enlighten.

Put it in the Pocket!!

gus-wallet

“What’s in your wallet?” The signature slogan of Capital One now has meaning beyond a simple marketing strategy. San Francisco based gus™ has introduced its new line of hand-sewn, high end, leather wallets and accessories for the 21st fly guy. These will leave spectators begging themselves that same aforementioned question.

The new line boasts Italian vegetable-tanned leather combined with modern American style which is displayed through “splitshot perforation”, a recherché design created using Italian machinery to give the pieces a worn look, perfect for your worn jeans.

Perfectly crafted, the passport folio even has a “SIM” chip pocket for all of you who have too much to hide to keep it on your phone. It also has the essentials slots for frequent traveler cards, foreign money, etc.

You can cop these pocket pleaser's at www.gusstyle.com.

Don’t just walk—SWAG!!

“Lil Wayne is ugly but something ‘bout his swag makes him attractive.” How many times have you heard that about a rapper or R&B singer? From A to Z, ugly dudes have been utilizing what is known as ‘swagger’ to boost their sex appeal. For those who don’t have it; it is essential if you wanna be able to pull off red jeans at an award show like Kanye.

In years past, we just called it confidence. Your walk, stance, and speech are all ways to let females and other males know that you are the shit without saying it. This confidence is also needed to look good in your clothes and to pull off almost any outfit. Here are two examples: (1) Have you ever seen a guy who has on all the latest brands but none of it fits him? He makes True Religion look like Route 66 and Ed Hardy like a Wal Mart knock off. In short, the clothes are wearing him when he should be wearing the clothes. (2) Alternatively, there are people who can wear anything and look great in it. Let’s look at a time when style (in my humble opinion) was random…the 80’s. The Retro Kids group have single-handedly brought back Gumbies, Cross Colors, and Dookie chains with their swag. They completely immersed themselves into the era by adopting the speech, dance, and slang of yesteryear. It takes confidence and swag like no other to have a whole country jocking your steeze. Especially when it was already done 20 years ago.

Here are a few things to do to build up your swag…

1. Look ‘em in the eye: If an attractive woman is walking towards you, look her in the eye and wait for her to break eye contact. This lets her know that you aren’t afraid to approach her. If she’s not interested then she will pretend that there is a grossly intriguing brick on the wall.

2. Smile: I know that smiling isn’t “gangsta” but it’ll make you and the other person feel better.

3. Stand tall and look ahead: Just like the military...shoulders back and chest out. Slumping makes you look goofy, weak, and cumbersome. Standing straight gives the impression that you are in control of your surroundings and know what you are doing even if you really don’t.

4. Sip the syrup: Slow down your walk, rate of speech, and general movements. Fast gestures and fetidness makes you look nervous.

There are a plethora of books that describe this in greater detail. Go peep a few because I am not spoon feeding a grown man. With practice you can be like ‘Ye West and say, “With my ego; I could stand there in a Speedo and be looked at like a fucking hero.”

NOOKA WATCHES!!

You are missing out if you have never seen these watches before!! I first saw Nooka's watches in a Vibe photo shoot featuring black British actor Chiwetel Ejiofor and had to find out more about them.

Nooka was birthed from the mental loins of New York artist Matthew Waldman after he noticed the limited ways to display time on a clock hanging on the wall of a London hotel. He then sketched designs for new and stylish ways of displaying time which later earned several patents.

Nooka has since been featured in magazines, won awards for accessory design, and currently collaborates with Toyota as part of the 5th Door campaign. Pictured here is the BKC ZOT watch from the aforementioned campaign, designed by independent fashion designer Ouigi Theodore of the Brooklyn Circus. It features an alarm, chronograph, date, time, aluminum case, and LCD display. The BKC ZOT is limited to 200 pieces and priced at $200.

Peep the entire range and story behind Nooka at Nooka.com.

Locally, Nooka's ZUB series can be copped at Common Wealth's DC location and Up Against the Wall.

Kufis are Back??

When did the head dress mostly associated with bean pies and the Nation of Islam come back in style? While at work I noticed at least 10 people rocking the crocheted head dress and wondered WTF? The kufi was never embraced by fashionistas on any level but in the streets, people have taken them to a new level.... I even seen a guy with a lime green one on to match his shoes.

O well its an easy cover up for a bad hair day and its avaliable at any corner store or street stand for less for $5. Fuck it I got one myself!! The black militant in me says congrats...keep rocking the African head dress. Can't be worst than wearing skin tight red jeans (please let that trend go away).

I'm Deep into this Parka

I found this Sub Rosa parka by 10 Deep on Common Wealth's site. The two-layer bonded nylon jacket is completely waterproof thanks to its taped seams, waterproof main zipper, sleeve and back game pockets. Its also fitted with an adjustable hood. New Yorkers like to be seen, so the Deep crew added an oversized checkerboard print on the lower half of the jacket so you'll stand out in rain, sleet, or snow.

While everybody else breaks their pockets for the newest Face or H/H ($250+) for the same features, you can laugh knowing that you spent half that, look twice as nice, and your jacket is three times as exclusive.

Dekka's Open house

Live the Machine

California based Live Mechanics brings the heat for their fall 08 season collection an assortment of jackets. The eight year old urban brand has been seen on the backs of superstars P. Diddy and Chris Brown. This season’s collection blends many of the current trends like retro, urban, and skater into something both couture and hood. The ‘Victory is Certain’ blue mock neck jacket features pinstripe fabric print, chest pockets and a shield crest on the back bearing the brands logo, mixing together both street and urban wear style to formulate something classic. The jacket also comes in purple, grey, and red (my favorite color). You can cop Live Mechanics at select Sport Zone or Up Against the Wall locations.
